Dental Exams & Cleanings
What are Dental Exams & Cleanings?
Prevention is key when it comes to keeping your child’s smile healthy and bright. Cleanings and exams allow us to remove heavy buildup and staining from their teeth while checking for other intraoral problems. We recommend that children of all ages come in for routine checkups every six months. This allows us to check for problems and monitor the growth and development of your child’s smile when it is most crucial.
Why are Dental Exams & Cleanings needed?
Even with careful brushing and flossing at home, it can be downright impossible to clean away all the plaque and debris from your child’s teeth. This is why a professional dental cleaning is so necessary. The cleaning allows us to remove this buildup and check the health of their gums. Exams are performed by our doctors, who check for signs of tooth decay and other intraoral conditions.
Who is a candidate for Dental Exams & Cleanings?
Every single child is a candidate for a dental exam and cleaning. In fact, it’s never too early to bring your baby in for their first appointment. From their first appointment on, we recommend bringing them in every six months. With regular preventative care appointments, we can help to prevent issues from developing so that their smile stays healthier and stronger.
What happens during your child’s Dental Exams & Cleanings?
We will sit them down comfortably in one of our dental operatories. Our licensed dental hygienist will perform a professional cleaning to clear away any debris from their smile. The teeth are flossed and polished before the examination is done. The exam involves our doctors checking for signs of decay as well as other intraoral problems. We may take x-rays at your child’s appointment so that we can further identify problem areas. Fluoride is added to their teeth, and they will be instructed to not brush, rinse, eat or drink for about 30 minutes following the appointment.
If your child needs an exam and cleaning, call our office today so that we can help to get them in for a quick and convenient appointment.
